HSCR Rules

1.Name

The name of the Society shall be "The Hagbourne Society of Change Ringers", a title known to have been in use from the time the Society was founded in 1897.

2.Objects

(a) The promotion of a high standard of ringing at Hagbourne
(i) for divine service, and
(ii) for other occasions.

(b) The fostering of a social spirit among the members, to the advantage of the Society and the individual members.

3.Officers

(a)The officers of the Society shall be as follows:

  • President
  • Chairman
  • Deputy Chairman
  • Tower Foreman
  • Deputy Foreman
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Press and Public Relations
  • Tower Keeper
  • Child Protection
  • (b) Election of officers shall take place at the Annual General Meeting.

    (c) Except in the case of the President, office shall be held for a period of one year; at the Annual General Meeting, all officers except the President shall retire, but will be available for re-election unless they wish not to be so considered. The President will normally be the incumbent for the time being of the parish of Hagbourne.

    (d) Life vice-presidents may be elected at the discretion of the members; these shall not exceed four in number at any one time.

    4.Membership

    (a) Ordinary ringing members shall be elected at an ordinary meeting of the Society. It is expected that ordinary ringing members shall be practising members of the Church of Hagbourne.

    (b) Ringing members from other towers, and non-ringing members, shall be deemed to be associate members.

    (c) Ordinary ringing members with a minimum of ten consecutive years membership may apply at an ordinary meeting of the Society to become life members, on payment of an amount equal to 10 years subscription at the current rate. Members with a minimum of twenty years consecutive membership may, on attaining the age of 65 years, be elected life members without further payment.

    (d) Junior members will pay subscription at half the member's fee; they shall become eligible for election to full membership on attaining the age of 18 or on leaving school, whichever is the earlier.

    (e) In the event of the Society wishing to expel a member, a motion must be passed at the Annual General Meeting requiring the Treasurer to refuse to accept such member's subscription for the ensuring year.

    5.Meetings

    (a) The Annual General Meeting shall be held on the last Tuesday in February, and shall deal with Officer's reports, elections and any other business.

    (b) Ordinary meetings shall be held on the first Tuesday in June and October, and the Tuesday of Holy Week.

    (c) The Chairman shall be obliged to call a special meeting at the request of not less than three ordinary members; a minimum of seven days notice shall be given.

    (d) Associate and Junior members may be present and may speak at all meetings of the Society, but shall not be entitled to vote.

    6.Financial Year

    The financial year of the Society shall end on January 31st, and subscriptions shall become due on March 1st, at a rate fixed at the Annual General Meeting.

    7.Rules

    These rules may be amended or added to at an ordinary meeting of the Society, provided notice is given of the amending proposition at the previous ordinary meeting.
